$500 million approved for the development of a sports and entertainment district in downtown Orlando.

Orlando, a leading city for hosting major events, is joining the growing trend of creating sports and entertainment hubs within urban centers.

City officials have approved plans to redevelop a site of more than three hectares in downtown Orlando, transforming it into an 86,312-square-meter mixed-use community complex called Westcourt.

The new sports and entertainment district will feature a 260-room hotel with 1,500 square meters of meeting space. It will also include 270 residential units, a 3,500-seat entertainment venue, up to 28,000 square meters of office space with a large terrace offering a variety of amenities, a 560-square-meter enclosed glass event space, and more than 1,000 square meters of retail space. The project will also provide a 1,140-space parking facility and over one hectare of green space.

Construction on the sports and entertainment complex is set to begin later this year, with completion expected by March 2027.
